The copper bell vest is similar in value to the shell bead vest in the Atayal. Among the Taroko (Truku), only males who had brought back the head of an enemy were eligible to wear this type of vest. During the dancing in celebration of a successful headhunting expedition, the sound of the bells brought attention to the wearer and his accomplishments. When the wearer passed away, this vest was buried with him.
